Turquoise coves: Granadella and Moraig
For the postcard of clear water, head to the coves of the Marina Alta. Cala Granadella in Jávea has been voted the best beach in Spain more than once — turquoise water framed by pines and cliffs, perfect for snorkelling. A few kilometres away, Cala del Moraig hides the Cova dels Arcs, a sea cave you can reach by swimming or kayak. These two are the most spectacular coves in the province.
City beaches: San Juan and Postiguet
For an easy swim, Alicante has two. San Juan beach is almost two miles of fine sand with full services and a tram from the centre. Postiguet beach sits right below Santa Bárbara castle, steps from the old town — the easiest option if you don't want to leave the city.
Buzz and services: Levante in Benidorm
Levante beach is the liveliest on the Costa Blanca: a mile and a half of sand under the skyscrapers, with beach bars, watersports and a promenade that stays busy into the night. Blue Flag, with a buzz for every kind of visitor.
With kids: Jávea's Arenal
Arenal beach is Jávea's only sandy beach, with the Montgó mountain behind it and shallow water ideal for children. A promenade of restaurants right behind turns a beach day into a beach-and-lunch plan.
When to go and practical tips
In July and August the small coves like Granadella and Moraig fill their car parks very early — arrive before 10am or go late in the day. The city beaches (San Juan, Postiguet, Levante) handle crowds better and have lifeguards in season. Bring water shoes for the pebble coves and your own shade, since natural coves don't always have anything to rent.

It depends on the plan. For turquoise water and snorkelling, Cala Granadella in Jávea is the most awarded. For services and comfort, San Juan beach in Alicante. For atmosphere, Levante in Benidorm.
Which cove is best for snorkelling?
Cala Granadella and Cala del Moraig, both in the Marina Alta, have very clear water and rocky seabeds full of life. At Moraig you can also swim to the Cova dels Arcs sea cave.
Is it easy to park at Cala Granadella?
Not in summer. The car park is small and fills up early; in peak season road access is often capacity-controlled. Your best bet is to arrive early or outside peak hours.
Which Alicante beach is best with kids?
Jávea's Arenal and San Juan beach are ideal: sand, shallow water and services nearby. Postiguet also works well thanks to how close it is to the city centre.
